 Israel Philatelic Services Poster

This charming poster was designed by Asher Kalderon and was published by the Philatelic Services of Israel. It is undated, but a number of stamps shown were issued in the first half of the 70’s, which suggests that the poster is circa 1975. The young boy is wearing the prototypical kibbutz hat; but this one is covered with stamps issued by the Postal Authority. Clearly the poster is meant to suggest to parents that they should encourage children in collecting Israeli stamp. That the language is only English, suggests the poster was meant for distribution in the United States and/or Britain. One interesting aspect of the poster are the embedded perforations that invoke those found in stamp sheets. (The photgraphic process makes them more apparent than seen on the poster itself.) The poster is in excellent condition.

sheet dimensions; height – 18 5/8“, width – 13 1/2“

Price: $30.00

 Israeli Poster - Stamp Exhibition

As part of the celebrations for Israel's 50th anniversary, the City of Tel Aviv/Jaffa, the Postal authority, and the Israel Philatelic Federation sponsored an International Philatelic Exhibit. The lithographic poster advertises that Herzl, Madonna and Mickey Mouse are all meeting during the week of May 13 - 21. One can only assume that no irony was implied. The poster is in good condition: there are fold marks and two small nicks on the lower right edge.

Poster size: height - 27"; width - 13"

Price: $35.00

 Decorative Dreidel

This decorative dreidel designed by Yossi Steinberg spins well, even though it appears to land predominately on the shin. It is a fun piece for a collector if not a gambler.

height - 1 3/8"; width - 3"

Price: $40.00

 Israeli Photo Album

Tooled leatherette bindings in the “Bezalel” style were commonly sold to tourists in Palestine and then Israel during the 20th C. Now they are primarily interesting as memorabilia from a bygone era This particular binding covers a photo albumin and comes probably from the early years of the State of Israel. Typical of such bindings was the beaten copper insert, which in this case has the image of David’s Tower as seen from outside the Old Jerusalem City Walls. The color of the item is unusual in that more subdued browns or blacks were the norm. The copper plate has a notable dent on the right and two creases in the upper left; and the copper surface is oxidized as would be expected in a piece this old The pages are all blank and the tooled surface is in remarkably good condition. The string holding the pages and cover together is original and in good condition, though slightly dirty.

height – 7 7/8”, width – 10 7/8”, maximum depth – 3/4”

Price: $40.00

 Mezuzah Case

Yair Stern has designed an attractive and practical aluminum and glass mezuzah case. The front panal, with a cut out pomegranate motif, snaps open to reveal a glass tube into which the klaf goes. A cover on the tube keeps out the elements, so that the case can be placed outdoors.

height - 4 1/4"; width and depth - 5/8"

To obtain a kosher parchment

Artist: Yair Stern
Price: $41.00
