Hi! Thank you for coming to our web gallery. We are retired academics, who own Art at the Center, a gallery selling Jewish religious and cultural objects. We hope that you will find our gallery interesting with items that are well designed, well fabricated, demand aesthetic respect, or are just interesting. The gallery opened in 1996, with a website and a physical presence inside the Jewish Community Center of Columbus, Ohio. In 2016, after 20 years at the JCC, we closed that store and now sell just through the internet. We provide modestly priced gifts or museum quality collector’s objects – Jewish ceremonial objects in various media – antique or contemporary. But we feature works on paper, such as books and art prints; and most particularly we specialize in posters – from Israel and from around the world – that reflect the cultural life of Jews everywhere.

There are different ways to navigate through the listings items on sale.
On the home page: clicking Gallery at the top of the page brings you to a list of all items for sale;
clicking on any of the categories listed along the side of the page will lead to to a more selective listing. For example, on choosing Antiques, you will arrive at a listing of antique items;
or you can use the search box to find a particular item directly.
One of our goals is to offer our customers reasonable prices. So within the continental United States we ship items at no cost, with some very few exceptions; and we try to set our prices low.
For any unique works of art, antique or ephemera various factors will determine the price; for example, condition, popularity and rarity. For such items we set a price based on our experience in the market and our evaluation of the condition of the piece.
With the other items that are not unique, we attempt to offer the lowest prices on the internet. However, we are not always on target. So, if you purchase an item from us and then find, within two weeks of shipment, a lower price (including the shipping) elsewhere on the Internet, send us the URL of the site. We then can lower ours to match or do better than our competitors. And for your effort we will provide a 10% refund.
We are a family owned and run gallery. Nonetheless, we attempt to ship all orders by the next business day. This may not always be possible, especially when we receive your order around Shabbat, Jewish holidays, or while we are away. If there is any delay, we will not charge your credit account until we are ready to ship to you.
In order to serve you better, we do need to know something about you. However, we do strive for your privacy. We do not store our customer data electronically at any location on the Internet or the Cloud. We do not share with anyone information about our customers or site visitors. And we do not track visitors to our site although; we do capture limited information such as the number of visitors or keywords that led to us, in order to analyze general traffic patterns.
On the Internet, it is difficult for a customer to evaluate an item given only a short description and an image. We do attempt to describe, as accurately and fully as we find reasonable, each item for sale on this site. We also provide images as part of the descriptions. We do the best we can with these images, but what you see on your monitor may not exactly represent the color, the size, etc of the item. But, if at any time you come to believe that the written description provided for an item you purchased from us was inaccurate, then please send us an e-mail with your concerns and we shall contact you to discuss the matter. If you are still dissatisfied with the item piece you have purchased from us, we will accept it back and refund of your purchase price, provided that item has not been damaged in any way and is sent back within 2 weeks of our shipping date. Before returning any piece, please contact us by e-mail or phone and tell us why you wish to return the item. We shall then provide you with a validation return number. WE WILL MAKE NO REFUNDS WITHOUT OUR PRIOR ACCEPTANCE OF YOUR RETURN.
Purchasing one or more items is quite easy with the Shopping Cart. If you find an item that you wish to buy, click on the “Add to Shopping Cart” button just below that item’s description. You can then go to the Shopping Cart screen, which is on a secure site. After filling out the required form, your order with the information about your purchase will be forwarded to us. To maximize security, we receive that information separated into two different messages – one via e-mail, the other through our server.
At the time we receive your order, we have not yet charged your account. First, we check whether we need more information from you, and/or whether the item is still available. In either of these eventualities, we will contact you before doing anything. Otherwise, we will ship as soon as possible, charging your account only when we are ready to ship.
Note: Because so many of our items are unique, we often do not have more than 1 in stock. If you want more than one of any item, please try to contact us before you send your order.
