Arthur Szyk Arthur Szyk (1894–1951) was born in Lodz, Poland. After fighting in the Russian Army during World War I, and after the war in the Polish Army against the Russians, he moved in 1921 to Paris to continue his art education. With the German Invasion of Poland he immigrated to the United States in 1940. His reputation as an artist relies primarily on his book illustrations and his World War II political caricatures of the Axis leaders. He was a meticulous draftsman who wielded a rich pallette of colors to produce an immediately identifiable style. More information about Szyk is available at this website.
