There is something magic about a well-constructed decorative wood piece - such as this dreidel. A brass spike passes through the dreidel to rest in the base; dreidel and base are of the same wood - American walnut; an inlaid veneer of various woods covers the dreidel's surface, and together with the usual (inlaid in this case) Hebrew letters is an image representing the Jerusalem walls added to the surface with engraved portions. The dreidel spins smoothly while in the base (but not on its own) and a small inlaid brass dot in the base acts to determine the outcome of the spin. Thus, the dreidel is both decorative and useful.
