  Our Tastes

We try to bring you items of high quality that we like and that have the widest possible appeal. But naturally, some of these objects are closer to our hearts than others - ones that we find particularly attractive, or well designed, or whimsical, or of historical importance, and/or charmingly idiosyncratic or just tickle our fancy. Finding and selling such pieces are one of the reasons that we enjoy our gallery. We opened this section of the site so that you may have a better understanding of our tastes. We hope you will find this list of interest.

 Ceramic Mezuzah Case

The artist, Dany Azoulay, composed the body of this mezuzah case as four triangular deep blue surfaces separated by thin white lines so that case becomes a representation of the letter shin. This is the most innovative design that we have seen for some time. And appropriate for a mezuzah , the surface has a beautiful touch. A velvet cloth covers the otherwise open back of the case.

length including metal screw holders – 5 1/4”, width – 3/8“, maximum depth – 3/4“

Price: $55.00

 Jewish Museum of Vienna Poster
Neues Bauen in Tel Aviv 1930-1939: New Buildings in Tel Aviv, a Jewish Museum of Vienna 1995 exhibit. In Tel Aviv, the 30's was a decade of innovative architectural design. Fortunately, many of the buildings built in this period survive, although in generally poor condition, so that Tel Aviv is a city unique in its treasury of modernist architecture. Recently, renovations of these structures have begun. This poster is 33" x 23 1/4" and in excellent condition. Our correspondent in Israel (Charles Kamen) informs us that the building pictured stands on the western side of the Ayalon highway, near the new Tel Aviv central bus station at the corner of Derekh Hahagana and Golomb.

 Illumination - Chai

Reuven Benajá illuminates the letters chai with the greatest of ingenuity. Here he fills the inside with two water fowl floating on calm waters beneath a cloud strewn blue sky. A bunch of grapes and two pomegrantes - themes often found in his pieces - hang from the fruit filled letter. The two letter text is surrounded with flowers and vines. Mixed media on parchment; signed (Reuven Benaja) and dated (Siena 5757).

 Seder Plate

Our immediate reaction on seeing this copper seder plate was a murmur of appreciation. The lacquered leaves float above the six individual dishes. (Six glass dishes not shown here come with the piece.) Even if you have another seder plate, you will certainly want to include this on your table. Others produce painted Judaica, but none as successfully as this artist.

height - 7"; width - 13 1/4"; depth 7 1/2"

Price: $143.00
