This wood engraved map of the Holy Land was taken from the publication, “Cram’s Unrivaled Family Atlas of the World”. The atlas was republished multiple times starting about 1883 and going into the early decades of the 20th C. The view is from the Mediterranean Sea looking east toward land, and stretching from Haifa in the north to Gaza in the south. Individual landmarks are indicated with numbers on the map and with the corresponding names listed below the image.
The colors (pastel green, yellow and blue) were also printed as individual blocks as seen from misalignments of the blue and yellow colors. A map of Japan is on the opposite side of the leaf.
The page is in good condition – slight age toning, with a discolored strip at the top where it had been inserted into the book, and minor smudges towards the upper right.
The map is mounted on an acid-free mat and will be shipped flat.
