This Reuven Benaja original illumination is a mizrach – a hanging on the east wall to remind the viewer where to face for Jerusalem. The image (ink, gauche, and gold paste on parchment) is of Jerusalem surrounded by a deep red dome and held up by a menorah with flames. Above the city is the word chai while below is the word mizrach. The artist has signed (Reuven Benaja) and dated (Siena 5758) the work on the lower border.
