Over his long career, Sid Chafetz produced a large number of print portraits, many of which were writers. This is a 1966 woodcut of Sholem Aleichem (Chafetz Graphics – Satire and Homage, entry # 117, p.65, 1988). Sholem Aleichem is the best known Yiddish author, famous for his comedic and satiric tales. His Tevye stories became the basis of the universally acclaimed play Fiddler on the Roof. The print, in excellent condition, is on thin laid paper. It is titled (Sholem Aleichem), numbered (a/p), and signed (S. Chafetz) in pencil on the lower margin. The print will be shipped in a mat.
