A Yiddish theater poster advertising the premier performance of the play Old Age at the New Yiddish Lawndale Theater (Chicago) starring Samuel Goldenburg. One interesting aspect of this 1931 poster are the ticket prices shown as: daily – 50 cents to 1.50 dollar; Shabbat 50 cents to 1 dollar. The Lawndale area of Chicago was the center of a thriving Jewish cultural center and the 30’s were the “golden age” of Yiddish theater in Chicago. The poster is in very good condition with excellent colors and little of the color aging so typical of such posters. There are the usual folds (due to the way these posters were delivered from the printer), three small repairs to the right edge, pinholes at the bottom edge, a few small tears around the edges and two very small losses in the center fold. This is an outstanding example of an artifact from a not yet lost(?) cultural heritage.
